Intro
Distilled in Tradeston in the heart of Glasgow, Glaswegin isn’t just a clever play on the name of the city from which it hails. Hitting the market towards the end of 2018 this gin has certainly caught the eye but what is it really like?
Price £39 ABV 41.1%
Bottle
The bottle for Glaswegin is certainly eye catching. The minimalist, monochrome design is unique and quite unlike any other gin bottle I have seen. Designed by Paul Gray a Glasgow school of art graduate who says
“The brief initially was to design the packaging and appearance of a new gin. A first time entry into a, now, very busy and saturated market.”
“Finesse and detail, good production values are all very important but what, in my view, is often missing is the connection between your hand and a back bar presence (back bar standout).”

Botanicals
Glaswegin has 8 botanicals, their idea being to not overcomplicate the gin. They are Milk thistle, Italian Juniper, Russian corriander, angelica, orange flower, Chamomile flower, pink peppercorns and bay leaf. Interestingly all 8 are listed on the front of the bottle which i havent seen before.
Nose
On the nose Glaswegin has plenty of juniper and citrus up front and a little bit of heat from the peppercorns and corriander. There is a sense/hint of a creamy texture to it influenced by the milk thistle.
Taste
Similar to the nose there is juniper and citrus right up top, leading to some spice. There is most definately a creamy texture from the milk thistle in another nod to its Scottish roots. I am also lead to believe that milk thislte has liver cleansing properties, although i think it would be a tretch to say it is a health gin… Drink responsibly people.
Serve
Glaswegin themselves suggest a no-nonsense serve of a simple permium tonic and traditional fruit garnish like grapefruit slices. It will also work well with medetaranian tonic and a wedge of lime.

Twist
Glaswegin have a few cocktail suggestions on their website, all with a Glasweigan style name. My favourite so far is the “fur coat nae knickers”. You can find them at http://www.glaswegin.com/pages/serving-suggestions
Summary
In short this is a very nice gin which i thoroughly enjoyed. Ok, i may be a litte biased as it is from my city but i would definately recommend. If I was to have one criticism, it would be price. At nearly £40 it is coming in at the slightly more expensive end of the market. Up against the likes of Isle of Harris gin.
